Leona Graham will take over the mid-morning programme on Absolute Radio from next month as Russ Williams leaves the show after 17 years.
Russ announced last month that after 22 years on weekdays at the station he’ll move to the weekend schedule only, continuing to present Saturday’s Rock N Roll Football show.
Leona has been at One Golden Square for 15 years as a presenter and voice over for Virgin and Absolute Radio. She’s also well-known in the industry for being the former station voice of BBC Radio 1, 5 live, Capital FM and the GWR group.
She currently hosts the 10am-1pm slot on Absolute Classic Rock and 4-7pm on Absolute 80s, both on weekdays. Bauer says she will remain on the two voicetracked shows in addition to doing 10am-1pm on the main Absolute Radio station from Monday 1st June.
Leona said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be taking over as permanent host on the mid-morning show. I’ve always been passionate about the music we play and now I will get to spend every morning entertaining the UK’s workforce. This is an exciting opportunity on the best station in the UK – I couldn’t be happier.”
Leona moved to One Golden Square in 2000 after a presenting career that had taken in stations including Power FM, 96.4 The Eagle, Surf 107.2, Core Radio, and Choice FM Birmingham. She started out in student radio with W963 – University Radio Warwick in 1989, doing a rock show and a nightly news magazine show.
